Deck with iron fence

Beaconsfield Village Backyard design

This compact contemporary Toronto backyard design by Landcare has high end finishes with maximum functionality while maintaining low or easy maintenance. The yard is contained by fencing, decking, stairs, upper walkways and benches made from long lasting Ipe (only requires oiling to maintain its warm tone). Gardens, planters and other materials are introduced to break up the use of wood. Corten Steel Planters with built in Ipe benches run along along the horizontal fence creating extra space for reading or entertaining while also providing green space accents. These planters boast Allium Giganteum in the spring and Blue Fescue in the summer. An area of artificial turf provides more low maintenance and a garden bed running along the edge adds a boost of colour through the use of Hydrangeas, and Astilbe. A small Skyline Honey Locus Tree will eventually provide dappled shade and horizontal interest to the yard.

Unlike many designs this yard doesn't focus on a large deck which can sometimes restrict movement against the house. Out the backdoor is a landing just significant enough for a few well placed urns and stairs to the main event. The whole backyard become instantly more usable as a result. You move from the grassed area to a fantastic stone seating area created in Techno Bloc's Borealis Slab in Sauvignon Oak Colour which then leads to the rear the yard dining area which is contained by a multipurpose garage with a custom rollup window for serving drinks and food to visiting guests and includes a barbecuing area with direct gas line for easy of use.

Stone layed perfectly to created a backyard oasis with seating and beutiful garden beds

Melrose Garden Oasis

This Gardener's paradise was created with the homeowners request for lush gardens within a very liveable space where they could entertain and relax.  The rear entrance from the city road was dug down two feet to allow the homeowner to ride her bike and enter the property without climbing the steep grade.  You take steps up to the expansive patio area.  Modern Unilock "Richcliff" rectangular paving slabs along with the clean lines of the circular patio furniture provide contrast textural full sun and shaded bursting with gardens roses, echinacea, daisies, hostas, and hydrangeas.  Lattice along the fences with allow vines to climb and further create a garden oasis.  Blocks of Armour Stone used sparingly bridge the modern elements with the English garden plant material.  A raised bed of pink hydrangea makes gardening easy and sets off the homeowners fantastic sculptures.

Intricate stone patio custom built fit perfectly together

Hogarth Avenue

The homeowners of this property wanted to maintain the natural charm of their backyard while creating clear zones for the whole family to enjoy.  Functionality and inclusivity were key to the project.  Mature trees were already established and required careful consideration concerning design and installation.  The cedar deck area wraps around the existing trees while others are incorporated into gardens as focal points. The design integrates three distinct areas in a relatively small footprint; a sports area for soccer and pets; an intimate area under the mature trees for entertaining and an easily accessible dining area on a raised deck that overlooks the property. The flow and connection between these zones are created not only by using natural stone, cedar planks, and abundant plantings but also by choosing to use softer shapes.

The gardens beds and pathways meander allowing the yard to feel larger as you travel leisurely from one end to the other.  Irrigation ensures that the gardens will remain healthy and full, while atmospheric night lighting enables the homeowners to extend their time spent in the yard late into the evening.  Artificial turf was chosen for the soccer area as traditional grass would not withstand the constant traffic. It’s important to note that the grassy area is multifunctional and allows the homeowner’s entertaining area to expand when needed.  The kitchen has an extra large sliding door that allows the family to look out over the yard so four seasons were considered. Spring bulbs will arrive as the snow melts, evergreens will provide structure and visual interest during the winter, and garden plants are timed to provide colour throughout summer and fall. This new backyard feels instantly mature and welcoming while promising to be timeless in its design.

Balsam Avenue Beauty Landscape Project - Toronto's Beaches

This property has a contemporary backyard landscape design that extends outdoor living into the evening thanks to landscape lighting and into the fall thanks to a firepit.

Balsam Avenue is one of the many special streets in Toronto Beaches. Also known as The Beach, this area has very mature trees and has a unique "laid back vibe" compared to the rest of Toronto and despite it beautiful traditional upscale residential homes. Updating this home required both and architectural firm and Landcare Inc.'s landscape design and build team to maintain the character of the house while also providing the owners with a more modern version.  Landcare's residential design team frequently works with Toronto architects. This Toronto Beaches property is an example of a collaboration between Landcare and Altius Architecture. Contemporary style has been added to a once traditional style home. Elements of the two blend perfectly in the backyard of this Toronto Residence.  The clean lines of a contemporary landscape design highlight the beauty of this the mature treed property and create an inviting space for dining al fresco with friends and family.  An added fire pit extends outdoor time late into autumn.  Stone patios, walkways and abundantly planted gardens provide this property with a stunning and timeless look. A new fence adds privacy and acts as a backdrop to the long garden that boasts beautiful shrubs like Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas, and boxwood.  Night-lighting highlights features, adds drama and creates safe pathways along walkways.

Nature is always trying to return to its wild state, so it is vital that a newly landscaped property be properly maintained, less it will start to become overgrown and lose its shape.  Landcare offers a variety of services depending how much or little a homeowner wants to be involved in their property. We do urn and annual planting, we provide four season service that includes spring clean up, detaching, top dress, seed and fertilize of lawn and turf, garden weeding and mulch, leaf blowing/raking and removal, pruning, and more. Our subcontractors take care of the irrigation and lighting maintenance, but it's all managed by Landcare.

Stone Walkway through the gardens leading up to this beautiful Tudor style home

Riverside Pool

The pool area in this large Toronto home was in need of a major upgrade. The interlock pool deck was from the early eighties and the timber retaining walls were rotting. The client was looking for something clean and simple that would complement the Tudor style of the house, maximize pool deck area and leave space for family football games. It was necessary to work around the mature trees on the property. The pool coping and banding were replaced along with the pool deck, retaining walls and steps. A small patio was added at the basement walkout and the gardens were redesigned. Major home renovations, including the addition of a garage lead to reworking the front. This included the addition of a central stone walkway with pillars, a new natural stone retaining wall along the driveway and new planting at the house.

Full Property Makeover in the Kingsway

Full construction services is available at Landcare. But we also provide landscaping design and build services to a number of Toronto Architects including Altius Architects. This home is an example of the type of full property landscaping that Landcare can do in house or in collaboration with your Architect.

These photos show the before and after of a major renovation. This typical Etobicoke home got a full scale modern makeover.  From zero soft and hardscape to final design with night lighting and extensive gardens.  Landcare's carpenters built planters, decks, fencing, and built-in seating using a variety of lumber including cedar and ipe. The modern lines of the house are echoed in the rear yard. It's clean lines and wood cladding is highlighted by the two tiered large deck. the upper area has a dining zone that steps down to a lounge area complete with a copper water feature. Horizontal fencing is a modern feature that contrasts with the woodland garden plants and trees that line the rear wall. Time in the yard is extended into the evenings with night lighting.

The Front of the home is landscaped using a number of materials.  The modern entrance is hardscape with a combination of grey brick interlock, armour stone and glass railings. These multi tiered raised garden beds are then filled with billowing soft grasses flowers.  To add an unexpected element to the home, a steel planter lines the wall by the front door.  This adds a clean, edgier feel to the entrance that a typical urn would not achieve.

small outdoor seating area with custom built patio, deck and fences

Warm and Welcoming: Cleveland Avenue

This small yard space was designed to maximize the entertaining potential and provide privacy for the homeowners. Horizontal fencing defines the yard and the wood gives it a warm atmosphere.  The size of the fencing changes to give visual interest and airiness to the space that if fully enclosed could otherwise have felt like a box. Trees are planted along the neighbours brickwall to soften and camouflage it's cool exterior. Designated space is allocated to the barbeque and strings of light provide urban patio style for entertaining in the evenings around the outdoor fire.  Beautiful annual arrangements add colour and interest in a manageable size and can be changed yearly to add a different colour or style.

Pool, Astroturf Lawn and back of the house

Lawrence Park Family Fun

Updating the design and function of a landscape involves understanding how the property is going to be used and making the most of the existing footprint and mature trees. This Toronto backyard needed to become a space that could provide hours of fun for kids while also giving grownups a fantastic place to entertain. The homeowner trusted Landcare Toronto to redesign and update their existing layout. Three major zones were identified. Nearest to the house is the entertaining zone complete with a seating area and large table with chairs and benches that can expand to accommodate large groups. Mid-ground is the lawn area for soccer, tag and other fun. The heavy traffic on this space made artificial turf the best option. As soon as the snow melts, the kids can run about and not worry about delicate spring lawns. It also means that irrigation isn’t required. The pool area was updated with a more modern stone patio surround. Glass fencing replaced the dated wrought iron and allows for easy viewing of swimmers while maintaining code and safety requirements. An ivy covered fence was installed to provide a soft and interesting visual contrast to the otherwise hard surfaces. This fence has an iron base that allows the ivy to grow thick and evenly. It obscures the view to the neighbour’s property. The fence also has embedded landscape lighting that provides lovely calm evening mood while also ensuring safe walkways for the swimmers. Uplighting is placed at the base of each of the Tulip Trees located in the gardens that flank the grass area and patio. Easy to maintain plants grow at the base of the trees and will fill in over the coming years. In the meantime, weeds are discouraged through the use of mulch.

Changing the front of this beautiful Toronto house was all about stripping back some of the busy plantings (included shrubs and trees that were planted too close to the house and its windows) while delineating and updating the walkways and driveways with new stone and improving and simplifying the front yard gardens. Landcare’s talented stone masons installed a modern curved driveway using Permacon stone. A more sleek modern garden with stone retaining walls defines the property lines from the sidewalk. It’s height prohibits dogs and people to trample on the plants and flowers. Landscape lighting was added for evening and year round interest.

Oakville, Outdoor Living

Outdoor Living in an Oakville Home

This family focused backyard has all the makings of a five star resort. Kids and adults can splash in the pool, practice their putting skills, dine al fresco under the cabana, and take a nap in the private lounger. Like Toronto Landscapes, Oakville homes are more like outdoor living spaces than just backyards.  This property utilizes smart landscaping technology to keep it beautiful and multi season functional.  Designed with a sensitivity to biodiversity using a variety of plants and trees including Native species.  The artistic hardscaping harmonizes naturalized gardens with highly manicured elements like the fun putting green. The homeowners have included seasonal plantings including a showy bulb display in springtime.  The front of the property (images to come) has an extensive and beautiful rain garden that Landcare (being certified to designing for water runoff) installed to prevent the excessive flow of water running through the culverts from flooding their front yard.

The trees planted on this property were quite mature and instantly transformed the yard from construction site to forest. Large armour stone help create a garden that references nature and enhance the birch trees that surround them.  The addition of a hot tub to the property allows for year round use. Swimming on the hot days and soaking as the snow falls in the winter contributes to the resort like feel.

concrete pad for dining with heat lamp and dining table. Outdoor lawn space and gravel.

Forest Hill Contemporary Landscape Design

This modern family wanted Landcare's design team to give them a contemporary landscape design where they could entertain without giving up a space that was also kid friendly. The long poured concrete driveway was kept minimalist, simple and tidy so that the architecture of the house becomes the showcase. Running along one side of the driveway is crushed gravel and along the other side is grass. These together absorb the storm water runoff and feed the trees and gardens.

The backyard of the property has the added value of mature trees extending to the far reaches of the yard. This feature can seem ideal for a traditional style patio, gardens etc. however, Landcare has managed to create a minimalist contemporary landscape design by including a poured concrete patio while still harnessing the intimacy of the canopy. A modern dining area, and giant nest-like lounger and seating area meet the adult needs for entertaining, while the long expanse of artificial turf complete with soccer net provides hours of fun for the kids. The home boasts an extra large door system that provides a link from indoors to outside to maximize the use of yard throughout the summer and fall months. This Toronto landscape design is summer and winter friendly. All year round there is visual interest and the addition of heating lamps means this family can enjoy their backyard all autumn, right up to when the snow falls. The kids can play soccer on their artificial turf and basket ball on the concrete driveway. The mature forest that makes up the furthest portion of the property, keeps the patio and soccer field cool and shaded all summer long.

Boxwood hedges line the flower beds with beautiful dark stone leading up to the front of the property matching the rustic home exterior.

Moore Avenue Traditional Landscaping

This beautiful home required formal style gardens, patios, and walkways.  Geometric angles are created through the use of low boxwood hedges, mirrors, and formal woodworking.  In the front of the home, a pink standard hydrangea tree is surrounded by a low boxwood hedge and filled in with decorative grass. Hostas are in abundance in the shade gardens. The driveway area ties into the brick of the home while still having a contemporary flair.   Meanwhile, the rear garden area is perfect for entertaining.  Cabana-like rooms surround the wicker seating area, on a large cut flagstone patio.  More pick hydrangeas surrounded with boxwood flank the patio.  This space includes a BBQ area and a long outdoor table with chairs.  Fences are painted and match the trim and doors of the shed area, trellis area will encourage flowering vines to flourish in years to come.

Front yard landscape with stone work and flower bed along edge held in by retaining wall

Colin Ave Landscape Project - Midtown Toronto

Nestled amidst the quiet elegance of a red brick facade, Landcare created a landscape design for this stately house that reflected the homeowners desire to have a harmonious blend of classic charm and modern sophistication. Easy to maintain and tidy in aesthetic. This home has Stone steps that lead to the substantial front door which is now flanked by flower-filled urns, brimming with vibrant blooms that provide a warm and inviting welcome.

A seamless interlocking driveway, reminiscent of cobblestone continues uninterrupted to the entrance steps. Dividing the driveway from the lush lawn is a gracefully curved garden bed, a verdant ribbon that adds a touch of separation while maintaining an overall sense of spaciousness. In this carefully structured garden, colours and textures are repeated for maximum impact and a sense of orderliness. Mass plantings of pink hydrangeas create a soothing backdrop, bordered by the precise geometry of boxwood hedges. The annually planted red geraniums introduce a lively burst of colour that homeowners can change each year. Discreet garden lighting gently illuminate the path to the front door, casting a soft and welcoming glow on the intricate landscape.

The rear yard, a haven of relaxation, reveals a cedar deck with black iron spindles, providing an ideal space for outdoor gatherings and tranquil moments of contemplation. A few steps down leads to a stone patio, that enables homeowners to entertain al fresco.

The rear lawn, expansive and verdant, is embraced by elegantly curved shade gardens that evoke a naturalistic aura. Japanese Maples sway gracefully in the breeze, while the Japanese grass adds a touch of wild beauty. Coleus and Rhododendron bring layers of texture and color, creating a tapestry of foliage that changes with the seasons.

Along the fence line, sturdy cedar trees provide privacy as they mature into a dense hedge. This landscape design is a testament to thoughtful harmony, where architectural elements and botanical wonders combine to create a sanctuary of beauty and tranquility, a testament to the refined tastes of its homeowners.

Nature is always trying to return to its wild state, so it is vital that a newly landscaped property be properly maintained, less it will start to become overgrown and lose its shape.  Landcare offers a variety of services depending how much or little a homeowner wants to be involved in their property. Baby Point, Etobicoke

Baby Point, Etobicoke. This residential landscape design for our west end Toronto client included a beautiful stone and interlock pathway and steps that lead down to a backyard.  They required a custom built shed that would echo the tudor style of their gorgeous Toronto home.  Landcare was also hired for it's ability to manage and to build a retaining wall that leads to a sensitive ravine area.  This required close consultation with Toronto city permits and working with environmental regulations/restrictions.  Materials used for hardscaping including the pathways, stairs and gardens was interlocking stone and large armour stone.

The gardens move from shade to sun as the pathway turns around the corner of the house. In the shade portion Dogwood, Hostas, Birch and Spirea soften the large stones and provide a traditional garden look appropriate to the properties style and existing gardens, while the sun portion includes Purple Cone Flower (Echinacea) and Creeping Juniper.

Lawn Space next to driveway with garden beds

Queen Anne

This residential property required a bit of everything, and Landcare delivered a cohesive, full-scale transformation.

Starting with the stonework, Landcare installed both a brand-new interlock driveway and a complementary front entry area. The materials were carefully chosen to contrast yet complement each other, creating visual separation while maintaining an overall sense of unity. The stonework continues along the side of the house and into the backyard, feeding seamlessly into a stone patio designed for outdoor dining. Matching stone was also used to build a separate seating area at the back of the yard—physically distinct but visually connected to the dining space. In the front yard, a large garden was created to frame the entrance. Plant selections focused on light greens and yellows to harmonize with the home’s exterior and the surrounding stonework, subtly highlighting key architectural features.

As you walk through the side yard, the stone pathway is flanked by beautifully constructed retaining walls that hold an assortment of plants and flowers. Behind these garden beds, trees add privacy and visual depth to the space. The backyard continues this theme, with similarly styled garden beds at the rear of the property providing a natural buffer between the living space and the fence line.

Plant choices across all beds were selected for their cohesive color palette while still offering a variety of textures and forms to keep the landscape visually dynamic. The deck leading down to the stone patio offers a prime space for barbecuing and entertaining, with custom planters adding a refreshing green accent.

This project exemplifies how a strong, consistent design theme—anchored by thoughtful material and plant selections—can unify an entire property, front to back.

Hamilton Avenue - Contemporary design in a small space

A small footprint doesn't mean you can't have it all.  This four season, contemporary living space includes a bbq area, hot tub, lounge area with water feature, as well as a dining area.  The warm wood walls are built horizontally but are balanced by the strong verticle elements which include the posts, the existing mature tree, the cascading wall of water, and many natural elements.  The yard is divided into zones that allow multiple uses but the repeat of materials and colours prevents a feeling of business.  The subtle lighting and warm tones allow the space to flow seamlessly together.  the homeowner wasn't interested in maintaining grass, so incredibly realistic artificial turf is used at the far end of the property. Heating has been added to the space in order to extend the living space almost to four seasons.  Silk grasses provide interest but no work and tile and composite floorboards create a long lasting design and ease of use.

Street View property photo showcasing retaining wall, stone walkway and garden beds

Ridge Drive

This home needed a Toronto landscaping company that would marry the traditional red brick facade with a modern design. Updated oversized wide pathway in Techno-Bloc stone and matching front steps in grey nickel are welcoming and increase the home's curb appeal. The design includes a retaining wall (also in Techno-Bloc), a contemporary garden with repeating mass plantings that balance the walkway, and also provides colour and textural contrast beneath the mature Japanese Maple.

Landcare's garden designer brought in a master horticulturist to help relocate the Japanese Maple in order to keep any stress or damage to a minimum.  It now provides the perfect complement and ties visually to the red brick facade of the house; acting as a focal point rather than being lost in the landscape.  This Toronto garden design includes a modern use of various grasses including Autumn Feather Reed Grass, Himalayan Fountain Grass, and Japanese Forest Grass.  Also included in the garden design are Coral Mackie Daphne, Korean Spice Verbenum, and False Spirea.

A spring flowering Saskatoon Berry provides spring interest, yews maintain winter interest and Three Beech Trees are planted to act as natural screening between the property and the neighbour. Use of Hydrangeas nod to the more traditional gardens one would expect from this home's era/design.  In order to highlight the modern feel, each garden bed is contained by retaining walls built in Techno-Bloc stone rather than the more traditional rockery. Mulch gardens keep the weeds and maintenance to a minimum and the manicured lawn is neatly edged. Two modern planters with boxwood topiaries flank the curved front door portico, adding contrast in shape but tying in the landscape's design through their grey colour (similar to stone) and through their minimalist style.

Full sports court for kids play with fresh wood fences on either side

Castlefield Avenue - Toronto's Midtown

A residential landscape in Toronto's Avenue Road and Eglinton area needed a refresh. An existing sports area with an artificial turf product felt disconnected to the his family's outdoor living space. Landcare's design team integrated these two designated areas into one liveable space. This homeowner can now dine outside on their new deck, complete with a built in barbecue, and planters. Three steps away is a naturalized style garden and living space with a comfortable seating area and fire pit. A planter with soft low maintenance grasses creates a natural divide between the artificial turf sport field and the seating area.  Natural flagstone is widely spaced and grouted with large chip gravel to absorb water runoff and create a naturalized design aesthetic.

The gardens are design for shade and partial sun. Included in the planting patio is Astilbe, Fern, Variegated Grasses, Yew shrubs, and a Japanese Maple.  The boards of the new wood fencing run horizontal in the current popular contemporary style. Mulched beds run along the fence and sports area. Planted with Pyramidal Oaks which visually soften the sparseness of the sports turf with naturalized garden and traditional brick house facade. The Oaks will also offer winter interest as they do not lose their leaves as other deciduous trees do.

South Drive, Rosedale-Moore Park

The entryway to this Rosedale property speaks for itself. An intricate interlock pathway, framed by a lush garden, gives the home the charm and elegance of a countryside estate.

The front walkway is bordered by expansive flower beds filled with a diverse selection of plants. Small shrubs line the path, creating a natural boundary between the walkway and the garden while providing clean, defined visual lines.

Plant selection within the garden was carefully curated to offer volume, texture, and a variety of shapes. Manicured hedges have been intricately trimmed to form a vibrant mosaic of green, adding structure and artistry to the landscape.

In the backyard, additional flower beds featuring hardy perennials were installed to ensure the garden remains vibrant and full throughout the year. This property is a stunning example of how thoughtful garden design and smart plant choices can completely transform a space.

Balsam Avenue - The Beaches

The Beach is one of Toronto’s most beautiful neighborhoods, and this property is a perfect example of its charm. Wanting a backyard that better suited their lifestyle, the homeowners opted for a complete redesign to make the space feel more like home.

A stone patio was installed to create defined areas for both dining and luxury seating. The choice of stone complements the natural wood tones of the existing fence and house, offering a warm and cohesive palette. Surrounding the patio are freshly mulched flower beds filled with a mix of perennials and ornamental grasses. These plantings provide soft contrast between the stonework and the wooden elements of the space. At the back of the yard, four small trees were planted in a row, creating a natural boundary and giving the yard a sense of depth and completion. As part of the new fence installation, Landcare also incorporated a built-in storage shed—an elegant and functional solution for keeping the backyard tidy and organized.

This thoughtful redesign has turned a once underutilized space into a welcoming and stylish retreat.Let me know if you'd like a condensed version or something tailored for web or marketing use!

Stone retaining walls built into the natural slope with a custom stairwell built into it.

Little Italy, Toronto Neighbourhood

Many of Toronto's Little Italy homes have steep hills that lead to their front doors. These entrances require a staging the steepness into tiered stairways. Landcare's design and construction team removed the existing and dilapidated stairs and garden beds that were originally constructed with timber beams. These were replaced by new concrete block foundations that meet and exceed safety codes, and integrated stone garden beds, walls and walkways. This new and more aesthetically beautiful design is also more durable, will not erode over time and will provide safe passage to the homeowner and visitors. Landcare's design team also added lighting and new plants in the garden beds to add beauty, interest and safety. This home was transformed from looking tired and neglected to fresh and upscale. Night lighting adds 24 hour visual interest. Light adds a sculptural element to gardens and walkways while also providing increase safety to visitors by casting warm light on the path. Garden beds were filled with new soil augmented with better fertilizer, new plants and mulch. This allows for low maintenance without compromising the beauty or  visual interest of the plants and gardens. The curb appeal of this property has increased greatly by Landcare Landscaping Design and Build teams.

Copper retaining wall / planter bed for perennials

HighPark Neighborhood Reno

Landcare's landscape designer was given the task of creating a modern raised bed that would provide some separation from the sidewalk to the home, as well as add visual interest and flow to the front door. The walkway efficiently and safely travels from the side driveway to a platform and garden area, where it then turns to head up the front walkway/porch.  The homeowners were updating the interior of the home and its exterior paint colours. The grey accents are echoed in the stonework and the wood porch and step are echoed in the wooden wall that shows the house number and divides the raised bed from the walkway.

Landscape lighting illuminates the walkways, house number, and garden features. A metal surround gives the raised bed a more contemporary feel than a stone retaining wall would, while still tying into the traditional architecture of the neighbourhood. Sun happy plants including grasses and lavender will thrive in this full sun garden.

HighPark Modern

This modern landscape design complements the home built by Altius Architects required a posh, modern landscape that both embraced the contemporary exterior and materials along with the wooded view of High Park's Grenadier Pond. The entrance is both simple and dramatic. An enclosed lawn area is hidden by a modern horizontal fence. The owners have a lot of privacy as a wide Permacon stone stairway winds down alongside the warm wall of douglas fir and the steep driveway towards the gated entrance to the home. Because of this steep driveway effective stormwater management needed to be integrated into the design. A modern drain system runs in front of the garage, ensuring that no runoff enters the building.  Once inside the quiet entrance, one feels the lightness of the architecture.

The glass and wood and stonework in harmony with the manicured grass and modern linear walkway.  Pea gravel and boxwood run alongside the walls and a large glass door seems to be leading straight through the home to the sunshine beyond.

There is a stairway on the right of the home that takes you down to a dramatic scene.  A wooded glade with the large pond beyond is admired through the large panes of glass of the home and the enormous deck that stretches out into the trees.

A wooden bench was built to enclose the perch so that visitors don't topple off into the water below.  A raised shade plant flower bed softens the modern elements of the home and blends the cottage woods and contemporary glass and metal.

This home was featured in The Globe and Mail for its handsome design and superior craftsmanship.

Glengrove Avenue, Lawrence Park

This Lawrence Park property needed their garden beds redesigned. Creating an interesting shade garden design is what makes Landcare one of Toronto's best Landscapers. This homeowner preferred a naturalized garden that focused mostly on soft landscaping and plant materials with some hardscaping elements like the stepping stones in the grass. This property owner wanted quiet walkways leading to the home and meeting the client's interests and aesthetic is part of our job. This lovely backyard garden is perfect for summer days.  Plants such as Hosta, fern, sedum, ornamental grasses along with shade friendly shrubs in various greens are mulched and pruned to create interest. The variegated greens, the variety of leaf shapes and sizes and the pops of burgundy and white create dynamic garden beds that line the property's lawn area.

The Beach Neighborhood Frontyard Redesign

It’s always a good sign when one project leads to another. In this case, a job in the Upper Beaches sparked interest from a neighbor, resulting in two complementary landscape designs that seamlessly blend together—creating a cohesive and elevated streetscape for the entire block. Both properties are built on a slope, requiring the use of retaining walls and tiered garden beds to highlight the elevation changes and make the front walkways stand out. The stone walkways were designed with accessibility in mind, featuring side railings for added safety and support. To ensure a harmonious look, the driveway stone was carefully selected to match the walkway, creating a smooth visual transition across all outdoor elements.

One of the homeowners also requested backyard enhancements. Landcare delivered, constructing beautiful garden beds alongside a stone patio that offers a peaceful and functional outdoor living space.

While the neighboring property uses similar stonework to maintain a unified look, the plant selection was customized to complement the overall neighborhood aesthetic while giving the home its own distinct character. This project is a great example of how thoughtful landscape design can elevate not just a single property, but an entire streetscape.
